Berlin has been the heart of the European start-up scene for quite a while and this year I’ve had the opportunity to work with some really exciting start-ups here.  That meant changing the lives and work styles of my candidates who are used to working within big corporations.

If you’ve ever moved from a big corporation to a start-up environment or you’re considering it there is one thing that you need to take into account: working in a small team.

As you all might know working in a team is not always the easiest thing to do. People have different working styles, different AC preferences and different personalities. Considering all that, you`ll be surprise to find out that these are the 5 things you can learn by joining a start-up team:

Bosses can actually be cool. Shocking, I know! Working in a small team you can discover that a boss is not just a person who gives out tasks but actually works closely with you to achieve your common goal.

Co-workers can turn into life-long friends.  It is unbelievable how many things small team members know about each other. They know about their work stories, their dating stories, their family stories and at the end of the day they still choose to spend time together outside of the office.

Office snacks are a gift from gods. This is usually part of the benefit package as start-up companies always make sure that their employees are pampered with healthy and sweet snacks in the office.

Your mentor could be sitting right in front of you. Literally! The perks of working in a small team is that your mentor can be sitting at the desk next to you and guiding you on a day to day basis. How lucky is that?

Loving your job. At the end of the day, the greatest lesson you can learn about working in a start-up environment is how much you actually love your job and how much you`re willing to do to succeed in the career you chose.
